Perivoli Lagoon House borders the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, which is accessible by 4×4 vehicles and is known as one of the best spots in the world to do land-based whale watching. Every year, hundreds of southern right whales gather in the sheltered bay to breed and calve their young. The reserve has a 18-kilometre-long unspoiled beach with rocky limestone outcrops, which is a historically significant area. The nearby Klipgat Cave has records dating back to the Stone Age (around 65,000 – 85,000 years ago).
